What is AWS Outposts?

AWS Outposts, it is a fully managed configurable compute and storage racks built with AWS-designed hardware using which we can virtually empower any datacenter, on-premises or co-located to AWS infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools to achieve truly hybrid environment. Outposts are connected to the nearest AWS Region to provide the same management and control plane services on-premises for a truly consistent operational experience across your on-premises and cloud environments. 

Outposts infrastructure and AWS services are managed, monitored, and updated by AWS. And just like in cloud AWS allows you to purchase a variety of AWS Outposts configurations featuring a combination of EC2 instance types and EBS gp2 storage tiers.

AWS compute, storage, database, and other services run locally on Outposts, and you can access the full range of AWS services available in the Region to build, manage, and scale your on-premises applications using familiar AWS services and tools.

How do you get started?

Select your Outpost configuration

Log-in to the AWS Management Console. Select an Outpost configuration EC2 and EBS capacity best suited for your needs. You can also create custom configurations for your unique application needs.

Ordering

Submit your order through the AWS Management Console and schedule your delivery and installation. Track your order from the AWS Management Console.
AWS personnel will install the Outpost at the desired location and configure it to connect to the AWS Region and your local network.

Launch

Once the Outpost has connected to the parent AWS Region, it will appear in the AWS Management Console.You can then launch Amazon EC2 instances and use EBS storage as well as other AWS services on Outposts using the same APIs within the particular AWS Regions. CloudFormation templates and other deployment tools will work just the same.

Support & maintenance

AWS Outposts is a fully managed service where it manages all the updates to the Outpost and you can deploy applications just as you do in AWS Regions. To order an Outpost, you need to have an Enterprise Support plan, which offers 24x7 support with a 15-minute first response time for business-critical outages. If there were any underlying hardware issues, you will be notified and AWS will have technicians and new parts on-site within 2 business days after you approve the replacement request. At the end of the term, you have the option to schedule a retrieval window. Which is also done by AWS personnel.

Outposts pricing

AWS provides you with a lot of options to choose from so that every organization gets what they are looking for with a high performance per price.

For Partial or No Upfront payment option, the monthly charges will be due over the three-year term.

Upfront & the monthly charge will apply 24 hours after installation when your Outposts capacity becomes available for launching instances.
